The Parent Support Service

Home / How we help / Parent support

When your child is struggling, trying to get help from schools, the council and the NHS can feel like banging your head against a wall. We'll listen, and then we'll roll our sleeves up and help you sort it out.

We can help with

  • EHC needs assessments and EHCP reviews
  • School attendance, emotionally based school avoidance and reintegration
  • Finding the right school or alternative provision
  • Disability Living Allowance, PIP, Carer's Allowance and other benefits
  • Housing problems that are making things harder at home
  • Early Help, Team Around the Family and other meetings, which we can attend with you
  • Exam access. We're qualified exam invigilators, so young people learning through EOTAS or remotely can still sit their English and Maths GCSEs

We believe every young person deserves the same chances. Read about our educational inclusion work.

Parent drop-in

Every Thursday, 9am to 4pm, at Carterton Family Centre.

Caring for a child who's struggling is exhausting, and it doesn't stop at the end of the school day. You're the one holding it all together, day in and day out, and it's easy to forget about yourself along the way. But you can't pour from an empty cup.

Our parent drop-in is time for you. Pop in for a cup of tea and a chat with people who understand, get advice on whatever's worrying you, or just sit and offload without anyone judging. Many of us have been there ourselves, so we know how much it helps when someone asks how you're doing. When you're looked after too, it's a little easier to keep going for them.

New

Our Parent Support Advocate

When things are at their hardest, our new Parent Support Advocate can step in, making the calls with you, coming along to meetings, and helping you understand your rights and use them.

This role is supported by GreenSquareAccord's Community Impact Fund.

"The combination of mental health support and practical help has been invaluable."
